Overview: In our Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, we maintain a fast pace - with a 1:2 or 1:1 nurse-to-patient ratio -to meet the needs of those in the most acute phases of cardiac disease. Common problems seen in our unit include post open heart surgery, severe decompensated heart failure/cardiogenic shock, STEMI, aortic dissection, and acute severe valvular dysfunction. Our unit also provides immediate specialized care to other severe and critically ill patients, including respiratory and cardiac failure, sepsis, renal failure, induced hypothermia, and continuous renal replacement therapy. Our Nurses demonstrate highly advanced skills in patient assessment/ intervention, teamwork, and crisis management. We orient new nurses to our unit by providing an 8-12 week orientation with a dedicated preceptor team complemented by a program of critical care courses and a nurse residency program for new graduates. Responsibilities: Upon completion of an accredited nursing program and under the direct supervision of a Registered Nurse, provides general nursing care and coordinates patient care through the life span for all patients. Qualifications: EducationProvide documentation of completion of a program of registered nursing and eligibility to write the licensure examination in Oklahoma. The graduate may continue to be employed in a Nurse Resident role until licensed, provided that the first licensure examination is taken within 90 days after graduation and the examination is passed within 6 months of graduation, on either the first or the second attempt. If the examination is failed after the second attempt, the Nurse Resident can no longer remain in the Nurse Resident position. Graduates of registered nursing program with concurrent LPN license will also be placed in Nurse Resident role. ExperienceCompletion of an accredited nursing program. (Above requirements can be met by the equivalent combination of education and experience). Licensure/CertificationBasic Life Support (BLS) training or re-training is required during orientation prior to providing patient care.Current Basic Life Support (BLS) is required to be maintained thru re-training for duration of employment. Complete the 1yr Vizient Nurse Residency Program.
