Description Position Summary The Director of Inpatient Services provides strategic, operational, and clinical leadership for all inpatient/outpatient medical surgical nursing services. within a physician-owned acute care surgical hospital. This role ensures safe, high-quality, patient-centered care while maintaining regulatory compliance, fiscal responsibility, and a positive interdisciplinary culture. The Director collaborates closely with physicians, executive leadership, and ancillary departments to optimize patient outcomes and operational efficiency in a resource-conscious environment. Key Responsibilities Clinical & Operational Leadership Direct daily operations of inpatient nursing services. Ensure safe staffing models aligned with census, acuity, and budget. Oversee clinical workflows for surgical and acute care patients. Lead patient throughput and care coordination initiatives. Monitor and improve quality metrics, patient satisfaction, and clinical outcomes. Develop, implement and oversee adherence to nursing policies, protocols, and evidence-based practices. Regulatory & Compliance Oversight Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations. Maintain readiness for accreditation surveys and audits. Oversee infection prevention standards and clinical documentation integrity. Monitor adherence to scope of practice and hospital policies. Financial Stewardship Manage departmental budgets. Monitor labor costs and resource utilization. Identify and improve operational efficiencies without compromising patient safety. Participate in capital planning and equipment acquisition decisions. Team Leadership & Culture Development Recruit, hire, and participate in the onboarding of nursing staff. Provide coaching, performance evaluations, and professional development. Address performance concerns and disciplinary actions as needed. Foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and professionalism. Lead workplace culture initiatives to improve engagement and create teamwork. Interdisciplinary Collaboration Partner with physicians to optimize patient care pathways. Collaborate with surgical services, pharmacy, case management, therapy, and ancillary departments. Serve as liaison between frontline staff and executive leadership. Lead and/or participate in interdisciplinary committees and quality improvement teams as required. Quality & Performance Improvement Track and analyze key performance indicators (KPIs). Implement corrective action plans when quality metrics fall below benchmarks. Champion patient advocacy and service excellence initiatives. Lead or participate in root cause analyses and risk mitigation efforts as needed. Qualifications Qualifications Graduate from an accredited school of Nursing Registered Nurse (RN), active state license Bachelor’s degree in nursing required, Minimum 5–10 years acute care experience Prior leadership experience in hospital setting Strong knowledge of medical surgical inpatient workflows Demonstrated ability to lead in resource-limited environments Basic Life Support (BLS) certification Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification Strong verbal and written communication skill Computer skills (Microsoft, PowerPoint, Word, Excel) Core Competencies Strategic Thinking Emotional Intelligence Conflict Resolution Fiscal Management Problem solving Change Management Interdisciplinary Collaboration Regulatory Knowledge Physical/Mental Requirements for Position Ability to read and write (legibly) Ability to communicate appropriately and effectively Ability to understand and resolve simple to complex problems Ability to understand simple to complex instructions Ability to constantly walk, stand, and/or lift items weighing up to 50lbs Ability to frequently utilize full range of motion, including crouching, stooping, reaching, bending and twisting Ability to frequently lift, pull, push with assistance of one other person, the weight of the average patient Ability to see and hear and distinguish color Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks Ability to function independently without constant supervision Frequent exposure to blood and body fluids, communicable diseases, chemicals, radiation, and repetitive motions Bloodborne Pathogen Classification: Category 1-Occupational exposure
